United Community Schools works to improve student achievement by addressing the educational, emotional, social and health issues that can stand in the way of learning. In schools across New York City, we’ve demonstrated how this can happen by connecting the entire school to the community.  Established by the United Federation of Teachers in 2012, we know teachers, we know schools, we know education, and we know how to put it all together to work for our kids. This is why our program is enthusiastically supported by the teachers in our schools, who are at the heart of our successful approach to improving education.

For more information or to volunteer with the organization, contact our UCS Director, Margaret Jackson.

Mobilizing Communities and Resources

Our on-site Community School Directors (CSDs) mobilize the expertise, energy and resources of carefully selected community organizations. Highly skilled and intensively trained, our CSDs are selected by their schools following an extensive evaluation process, and with substantial guidance from United Community Schools professionals, ensuring that they are an integral and productive part of the overall school team.
